What is the aim of the Award? The A1 Award is designed to offer those individuals who are, or will be, involved with assessing learners taking National Vocational Qualifications, a programme of training in skills, techniques and principles of assessing competency using a variety of assessment methods. Are there entry requirements? Yes, to undertake the A1 Award you will need to meet the occupational competence required as set out in the assessment strategy for the National Vocational Qualification you are assessing. In addition you will need to ensure you have access to at least 2 NVQ learners to assess. How will I achieve the Award? The assessment plan will be agreed between you and your Staff Development Centre assessor who will provide ongoing support throughout the process using various support mediums to ascertain progress with activity in the plan and give support as appropriate. Your Staff Development Centre assessor will come out to your centre, or another place of work where you conduct assessments. They will undertake a review of your assessment plan and you will be required to conduct a professional discussion with them relating to observation and feedback of assessment with at least one of your learners.
